What are pesticides?

Pesticides are substances and preparations that affect the basic processes in living organisms. They are compounds of chemical substances of synthetic or natural origin, intended to control the growth and destruction of pests, unwanted plant cultures and animals, transmitters of disease and to kill insects that cause discomfort to humans and animals. The focus of pesticide consumption is in agriculture, but also in forestry, human and veterinary hygiene, wood and plastic protection. Pesticides occur not only in the soil, at the point of direct use, but in the entire biosphere – in the air, rainwater, in plants, food, in animals and also elsewhere.
